Adult Basic Education
-These courses are designed to improve reading and math skills.
The class is self-paced and instructors are available at all
times to provide assistance to the students. Many teaching
methods including audio cassettes, video cassettes, and computer
software are used.

GED Class—This
course prepares you for the South Carolina General Equivalency
Diploma Examination. The course is offered at Poynor Adult and
Community Education Center for adults 19 years of age and older who
are no longer in regular school. The class offers instruction in
math, science, social studies, reading, and writing. Instructional
methods include self-paced study sheets, computer software,
classroom lectures, videos and practice tests. |

High School Diploma - Classes for students 19 and older are offered each semester during the school year. Take advantage of our specially designed, self-paced courses which include English, Math, Science, Social Studies and various electives. Instructors are available to assist students at all times. Students must earn 24 units and pass the HSAP to receive their diploma. Monday - Thursday: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm Tuesday and Thursday: 5:00pm-8:00 pm (Poynor) Cost: $60.00 per unit |

English as a Second Language - (ESL/ Ingles Como Idioma Segundo/Anglais Comme Lanque Secondaire) - This class is for non-English speaking adults who need instruction in speaking and writing English.

YAP! (Young Adult Program) A student aged 17 or 18, not currently attending high school, may enroll in Poynor to pursue a high school diploma or GED. The student should pick up a registration packet of information. After eligibility is determined and the student is accepted into the program, the student may enroll at a designated time. Qualified teachers are available to provide assistance. All courses are self-paced, and labs are equipped with computers and a variety of software to assist each student. Students must earn 24 units and pass the HSAP in order to receive a diploma. $60.00 per unit/ $15.00 GED per 5 week session Monday - Thursday 1:00pm-4:30pm for GED. Monday-Thursday 8:30am-12:30pm

Students who attend Poynor Adult Education and are enrolled in high school diploma or GED classes may qualify for the dual credit program at Florence Darlington Technical College. In order to participate the following criteria must be met: 1. Need 8 units or less until graduation. 2. Be ready to take the GED within 6 months. 3. Be recommended by Transition Specalist. 4. Meet the FDTC requirements.
